Posters with August Malmström's most famous works, Älvalek from 1866. Until 1872, the original was owned by King Charles XV. The painting depicts river dancing, a weather phenomenon where moist air condenses and forms microscopic water droplets that remain floating. In ancient folklore, it was believed that the fog was dancing elves. According to folklore, fairies lived in the wild and could be seen dancing on hills, mountains and forests. Fairies were beautiful but dangerous and could make people sick.

In Älvalek we see a meandering morning mist with elves dancing hand in hand like a thin veil through a moonlit, quiet landscape. Trees stand like dark shadows against the sky.
