Posts with the painting Hip, hip, hooray! Artist party at Skagen av is famous Danish artist Peder Severin Krøyer (Danish title: Hip hip hurray! Artist party on Skagen).

The work is from 1888 and represents the artists' colony the Skagen painters celebrating with raised glasses in hand in a garden. The people pictured are from the left and clockwise around the table: Martha Johansen, Viggo Johansen, Christian Krohg, PS Krøyer, Degn Brøndum, Michael Ancher, Oscar Björck, Thorvald Niss, Helene Christensen, Anna Ancher and Helga Ancher.

Peder was born in Stavanger to Norwegian parents but grew up as a foster son in Denmark with his sister and Danish brother-in-law Krøyer, whose surname he came to adopt. Peder developed into one of Scandinavia's foremost painters.
