The picture was published with the fairy tale "When the sorceress took care of the king's big city" by Elsa Beskow in the fairy tale collection Among Santas and Trolls in 1914. The tale is about a sorceress and her boy who remain in the forest when the other trolls have to move because people penetrate deeper and deeper. in the wilderness. The witch and her boy have namely got a taste of fried pork and coffee. They disguise themselves to people by tying up their tails under their clothes and can then sneak in among the people to get their new favorite food and drink.  

In the picture, we see the witch sneaking out to a cottage in a dark forest landscape to feel the good smell of food.
