Poster with painting of the iconic garden in Villa d'Este, Italy. The painting was painted in 1843 by the Swedish artist Gustaf Wilhelm Palm.

Villa d'Este is an Italian palace with gardens just outside Rome. It was built in the middle of the 1500th century and is listed as a World Heritage Site. The trees in the motif are Cypress and can be up to 2000 years old. Cypress oil is used today for breathing difficulties and is very popular in men's perfumes. The tree has been considered sacred for hundreds of years and symbolizes the beloved female beauty and the Greek goddesses Aphrodite, Hera and Athena. In the past, it seems to have been a superstitious practice to use cypress twigs to protect oneself from witchcraft.
