Djurgården in its full splendor in 1897. The photograph was taken during the "Stockholm Exhibition" from Strandvägen. In the picture we see Djurgårdsbron and a typical folk life with horse-drawn carriages, women in long dresses and straw hats as well as men with dark suits and plum tops.

At the end of the 1800th century, industrialism was in full swing. The Stockholm Exhibition's main goal was to market Sweden internationally and show technological progress. Innovations in the form of food was also shown. For the first time, people in Sweden could buy hot dogs as fast food. The women who sold the sausage were called sausage ladies. In order not to burn themselves on the sausage, customers had to borrow white cotton gloves. This became an expensive story and shortly afterwards they started serving the hot dog in baked bread.

Most of the exhibition buildings were later demolished, but some still remain. The Nordic Museum, the Biological Museum and the Skånska Gruvan were part of the exhibition area.
