It's never too late to be what you might have been - George Eliot

Mary Ann Evans, better known by her male author name George Eliot, was a British woman, author and journalist who lived between 1819 - 1880. She was one of the leading writers of the Victorian era and admired by many, not least by Charles Dickens who is perhaps the world's most famous author of all time. Studies have shown that the literary world was more equal in the 1800th century than the 1900th century. Women are not portrayed as often in literature in the 1900th century and the number of female authors was significantly lower. It is believed that this is due to the author's status becoming higher in society during the 1900th century, which attracted more men into the profession.
