Götaverken in Gothenburg launches a new ship. People have gathered on Gothenburg's quays to watch. The ship belongs to the shipping East Indian Company (Ostindiska kompaniet) and is called Shantung. It was launched on June 7, 1929. The shipping company operated freight services between Sweden and primarily East Asian ports.

Götaverken was a shipyard at Hisingen in Gothenburg. In the 30s, Götaverken was the world's largest shipyard based on the number of tonnes launched. The company was founded in 1841 by the Scottish businessman Alexander Keiller and was then called Keillers Werkstad in Gothenburg. The company went bankrupt in 1989, but some parts of the business still survive today in the form of Cityvarvet which carries out repair and maintenance of ships.
