Poster with a fantastic painting at the palace Makalös by Axel Fredrik Cederholm from 1825.

Makalös was the accepted name for the De la Gardieska palace, which was then located in the completely newly built part of Norrmalm in the place we today call Charles XII's square.

Makalös took 8 years to build and was completed in 1643. The palace was one of the most talked about palaces in Sweden and the private palace which at that time was the most exclusive in the entire Nordic region.

In 1680, Charles XI took over the palace through the reduction, which was a repossession of properties that the crown had previously distributed and then the palace became an arsenal.

In 1793 the building was made for use by the Dramatic Theater and in 1825, in the middle of a performance, the palace burned to the ground in a large fire.
