The year is 1916 and in the picture we see an older man in a rowing boat in the port of Gothenburg. When the photo was taken, the man, named Lars Svensson, was 77 years old.

The Port of Gothenburg has since its inception played a central role in Sweden's contacts and trade with the rest of the world. It is today Scandinavia's largest port and the gateway to the world for large parts of Swedish industry.

It was in the port of Gothenburg that the Swedish East India Company made Gothenburg North Europas trade center with its travels to Asia in the 1700th century. It was also where 100s of Swedes emigrated to the United States during the 000th century.
