Posts with the painting Gustav II Adolf's death in the Battle of Lützen from the year 1855.

The Battle of Lützen in Germany in 1632 was one of the largest field battles of the Thirty Years' War. In the picture we see an enormous intensity and richness of detail between the Swedish-Protestant army under the command of King Gustav II Adolf and the Catholic-Imperial Army under the command of Field Marshal Albrecht von Wallenstein.

The battle ended with an expensive victory for the Swedes. About 10 soldiers fell during the 000 days, including the Imperial General Gottfried zu Pappenheim and King Gustav II Adolf.

The artist behind the work is Carl Wahlbom and was one of Sweden's most popular history painters during the 1800th century.
