The Drinkers - Poster

Poster with the painting The Drinkers from 1890 by the Impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh.

When van Gogh was admitted to the mental hospital in the south of France, he also created a number of copies of artists that he looked up to. This allowed him to focus on interpreting other works in his painting instead of constantly creating his own compositions.

For the motive The Drinkers van Gogh was inspired by the French 1800th century artist Honoré-Victorin Daumier and his wood engraving which was a parody of the four ages of man (children, teenager, youth and old). The exaggerated figures in the picture reflect Daumier's humor and his sad message about the horrors of alcoholism. The greenish palette is said to reflect the color of the infamous drink absinthe. 

Van Gogh is one of history's and the western world's most famous artists and has created over 2 works of art, of which 100 are oil paintings where the majority of the paintings were created in the last two years of his life. 

Van Gogh's paintings are colorful and dramatic with an impulsive and expressionist style. Van Gogh saw no commercial success during his lifetime, but his works became popular only after his death. He died of suicide at the age of 37 after a period of mental illness, depression and poverty.

We deliver to the whole world and always offer free shipping! Depending on which country you ship to, the delivery may mean that certain customs duties and taxes are added - there is no additional duty or tax on deliveries within, among others, the EU, USA or Norway.

Delivery time is normally 1-3 working days within the Nordic countries, 2-5 to others Europa and 3-8 working days in other parts of the world. As for canvas paintings, we make them by hand in our factory in Sweden.

The canvas needs to dry before we stretch them on a wooden frame and send them to you. The delivery time for a canvas painting is therefore approximately 7 working days within the Nordic countries, slightly longer to other countries.

If you order from Norway, your order will be delivered with Fedex, to Sweden and other parts of the world with DHL. Your package is normally delivered to your nearest delivery point!
