Wall mural with the painting Näcken by Theodor Kittelsen from 1904 (Norweigan title: The Water Sprite).

This work is very famous in Scandinavia and especially in Norway. It shows the mythological creature Näcken appear in a quiet dark pond in the evening.

Näcken is a supernatural male water creature that mainly lives in rivers, streams, ponds and lakes inland. The figure is known from old Nordic folk beliefs and poetry from Old Norse times, mainly from legends and folk songs from Norway and Sweden. Näcken is an embodiment of the dangers associated with water and appears in a number of different forms. He often tries in various ways to attract people to drown them.

Theodor Kittelsen is a Norwegian artist who, like Swedish John Bauer, is known for his fairy tale motifs with trolls and princesses. His work is still iconic in many Nordic homes, but despite being hailed as a national artist in Norway, he is hardly known outside Scandinavia.
